New face therapy for a perfect glow

New face therapy for a perfect glow

Last year during an event, I met Patricia Kihoro, a local actress and musician, and her face seemed to be glowing.

After a long struggle with acne and breakouts, she had just about given up on her face. On recommendation by a friend, she tried a new therapy dabbed HydraFacial, and several sessions later, her face was the envy of many a women in the room.

Sheleena Pande, managing director of Sheleena’s Exclusive Beauty Stores, walks in to our meeting with a glow. Her skin looks ‘happy’, which she explains is due to the good health of her skin.

The beauty expert had her first HydraFacial treatment as in Dubai, which she admits she did not initially like.

“It was missing the pampering touch (of a regular facial),” she says. But her clients loved her face when she returned home, giving her incentive to keep at it.

“HydraFacial is the newest and advanced non-laser skin resurfacing and combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection simultaneously, resulting in clearer, more beautiful skin with no discomfort or downtime,” says Dr Tilman Stasch of Valentis Clinic.

The treatment uses vortex technology to target certain skin problems, such as blackheads, whiteheads, brown spots, acne, sun damage, uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, and the fine lines of premature aging.

“HydraFacial isn’t just a temporary solution to brighter and more beautiful skin, it actually improves the overall quality of skin, which makes it healthier in the long term,” says Dr Stasch.

Worth the cost

The experts’ state, for optimal results, a series of six treatments is recommended, followed by one treatment every three months.
“The treatment is very aggressive to do more than once a month,” explains Sheleena.

Each treatment session costs between Sh10,000 and Sh15,000. This is due to the use of patented product. According to Sheleena, it is worth the cost because the skin is one’s image.

“Each step has a specific tip that comes with a solution for the specific job. Each tip are disposable so each client gets a new tip,” explains Sheleena.

Once the process is done, the patients can return to using their regular skin care products. The process takes less than an hour and unlike regular facials, it does not leave the skin feeling raw or irritated.

“Unlike a normal facial, the HydraFacial solutions of moisturisers and anti-oxidants are much stronger and the amount of resurfacing one receives from the HydraFacial is much more intense than a normal facial. In fact, the results from a HydraFacial are superior and immediate compared to the expected results from a microdermabrasion and laser,” says Dr Stasch.

Pregnant women

It is especially a great option if you have dehydrated, sun damaged or sensitive skin which is prone to redness. It is safe and effective on all skin types and skin colours.

However, pregnant women, those allergic to sulphur and shellfish are advised against the treatment.

The treatment must be undertaken by a trained expert, says
